About Schlaubetal Nature Park

Schlaubetal Nature Park, spanning approximately 130 square kilometers in the Märkisch-Oderland district of Brandenburg, Germany, is a remarkable example of Central European lowland landscape conservation. Centered on the Schlaube River valley, the park showcases rolling hills, winding streams, dense deciduous and mixed forests, wetlands, and traditional rural villages. Formed during the last Ice Age, the park's topography features glacial formations such as terminal moraines and kettle lakes that provide diverse habitats. Ecologically, the park is home to native species like beavers, otters, European pond turtles, and an array of birdlife including black storks and white-tailed eagles. It is also noted for its ancient oak and hornbeam woods and well-preserved limestone cliffs along the river's course.

Historically, the region maintains a rich heritage with small towns such as Müllrose and Treplin, featuring traditional architecture and historical mills. The Schlaubetal water mill and Abbey ruins add cultural interest. For outdoor enthusiasts, the park offers over 60 kilometers of marked hiking trails that snake through the forested landscape alongside clear streams and past waterfalls. The Schlaubetal Weg is the signature trail, taking visitors on a scenic journey through the valley’s highlights. Visitors can engage in bird watching, fishing in the clean waters, mountain biking on varied terrain, and in winter, cross-country skiing. The gentle topography combined with pristine nature makes the park ideal for families and nature lovers alike. With several well-maintained visitor centers, guided tours, and educational programs, Schlaubetal Nature Park is a living showcase of Brandenburg’s natural heritage and a peaceful retreat from urban life.
